Charisma...

is something I truly lack. My mom, on the other hand, has oodles of it. Whenever I try to tease some shop owner into giving me some discount or attempt to sweet talk to get my way with some teacher, I always get an angry expression as if I've really insulted that person. As opposed to that, when my mom uses that sweet lilting tone of hers and says playfully "Kya bhaiyya, hum kitni der ruke hain", the shopkeeper/waiter/any-person-at-receiving-end-of-charm will give a shy smile and say "Ha Madam, bas do minut." And it's really done in two minutes! I, apparently, have received none of the charm. I think instead I've inherited my Dad's sharp tongue and even while meaning to sound polite and teasing, I end up saying some crap which usually makes the person in front of me bristle with indignation and declare that they will never do my work!

I present some (purely hypothetical) situations to you:

Me:  (using my sweetest smile and most charming tone) "Oh madam! Chalo now teach us aerobics! It's 7:22!!!"

Aerobics Teacher: "Let more girls come".

Me: "I'm here na! And this other girl too! How many more girls do you want!?? "

She: (bristling with anger, there we go) "I do NOT teach aerobics when there are only 2 students in class. I need at least 3 students to teach. You should be happy I haven't called off the class yet and I'm still waiting for more students to come. In other gyms where I teach, this rule applies. %^%&##$#^"

If another student hadn't turned up just then, I would have heard a full lecture on the International Laws of Aerobics. I mean sheesh, my charm just didn't work on her! I was just trying to be playful and friendly and instead this is what happens. I really don't know what I do wrong.

Thankfully, I do have some friends who understand my sense of humour and who haven't slapped me till date. One of my friends had a weird skin abnormality (dark patches) around her eyes and I said to her "Wow! You look just like Catwoman!" From the striken look on her face, I thought "Oh crap! I've done it again!" Mercifully, she didn't beat me up or throw me out of her house and she actually got rid of those marks!

In another instance, a friend had worn a brand new shirt which was white in color and had vertical thin black stripes. As soon as I saw him, I was going to blurt out "Which jail did you escape from?" but I just about managed to hold my tongue as I choked on my soup and got some time to think. Good thing I choked, this one has a really bad temper and the slap was sure to come.

So, my idea of humour is very twisted and not everybody gets it. It's under control now, thank God, but the whole playful-teasing-charsima thing is still not working. I'll never get my work done at this rate!

Unaerobic stories

So, as you guys know, I am a huge aerobics fan. Although for the major part of the class I'm sincerely working out, there are some moments when I'm doubling over, laughing like crazy. Moments when I forget my steps and the aerobics instructor loudly calls out "Manasi! Pay attention!!" and I laugh to hide my embarrassment. I have been seriously considering changing my name and not letting her know about it, but since she has all the members' cards, that's going to be a mean trick.

Funny thing about the instructor is, she doesn't know how to count. I mean somebody, please send the lady to a primary school. To give a little background, she has taken it upon herself to whip all of us into shape via the 3-day aerobics session. So it's not just aerobics, which is mostly cardio, but we've to suffer through weights, floor exercises, weights AND floor exercises... So in the midst of a particularly excruciating ab workout she'll say:

"Last 3 to go!"
"Up!"
"Down"

"Up!"
"Down"

"Last 2 to go, come on girls UP!"
"Down"

"UP! Stay! (Yeah right! :P Not after you cheated us this way Mam!) "
"Downnnnn"

See what she did there? She keeps trying these mean tricks on us.

The aerobics hall is awesome, in that it has a full wall covered with mirrors. Now obviously, we're all narcissists and I admit I keep staring at myself at times rather than concentrating on the steps. But at least I do it when I'm facing the mirror. There are a few steps in aerobics when you need to turn to the side. One pretty girl in our class keeps twisting her neck and checking herself out even then! I wonder if she's taking classes with Ramsey brothers to master the art of rotating her neck 180 degrees to look at herself when her back is turned to the mirror. I mean yeah you're pretty, don't break your neck over it!

Talking about scary movies, don't miss this review of Shaapit... I don't know how to pronouce it, I usually just say Shatap! :P

My first cribby post

Ok so maybe not first. Its the first one to have this title though! So the first thing I want to crib about is mine and God's fight against my weight loss. It seems recently whenever I look at myself in the mirror and decide, hell I'm going to do something about this! God says "We'll see". A few days ago I went to play table tennis with my mom and immediately contracted a cold. Yes, I got a cold WHILE playing tt. It started off with a very weird throat infection and turned into a full blown cold a couple of days later. Needless to say, I needed no greater excuse to keep sleeping for hours on an end.

The next time when this happened was when I decided to go for my aerobics class. Yes, I've finally joined my aerobics class! I went for 2 days and precisely at the end of the 2nd day, I started suffering from stomach ache. I think I had a mild case of food poisoning. So I'm back to not walking, not playing. Although I am eating less too so that should compensate for some loss of activity. Even so, I am tired of falling sick all the time! I've just been bogged down by 1 disease or the other and ironically right when I'm trying to get some semblance of regular physical activity in my life... Yeah God, we'll see! Hmpf!

Next in my list of cribbing is my age. I'm almost 25! I feel like I'm suffering from mid-life crisis. Everything will go downhill from here! Its so strange to hear myself say things which I've heard from 40 year old people before. As they say though, 30s is the new 20s and by extension of that definition, 20s must be the new teens so I have quite a lot of time before I start trying to brake my downhill process. Time seems to have flown! I guess this is just because I am sitting at home whole day. I can literally count every minute passing away. Scary feeling, that is...

Last on my crib list today is Holi. "Bura na mano, holi hai" never ever works on me. Mujhe hamesha bura lagta hai if someone comes and smears colors on my face when I am in no mood to play. Plus, this article by Indian Express makes me say "seeeee!"

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/protect-your-eyes-during-holi/585451/

Alright so its not so bad, its kind of fun too. In the past few years though I have been extremely averse to playing Holi. The color just doesn't go out from your hair. In some cases, I've seen people walking around with yellow eyes. The hours and hours and days and days of baths are just not worth it for a few hours of "fun". I think it is just an excuse to beat up people you have a strong grudge against, or even a mild one for that matter. I regret to say that I've played with eggs and Subja once and walked around like an urchin for hours after that. Oh God, but that was years ago! Anyway, tomorrow is Holi and I am for sure going to flout the "no-scarf" rule. I am going out covered from head to toe! My dearest friends, please forget my home address till end of tomorrow...

No frustration, only great exhaustion!

The days of red faces, stinging eyes and aching stomach are back! I am so glad that today after aerobics class I didn't have the energy to break any chairs..

For the uninitiated, my advanced aerobics class was turning into a snooze fest becoz of terribly slow music and out of frustration, I had promised to cause some physical damage to that gym.
Cruel Intentions

However, as I said, today I thoroughly enjoyed the class. The rocking music, complicated steps and stress on memory was back!
God bless the person who invented aerobics
God bless my aerobics teacher
God bless the angel who gave her that rocking cd!

Ready to rock and roll :D
